Americans Get It!

Despite what our elected officials may claim, Americans understand our National Debt is a serious problem and they want it fixed NOW.

In a May 3^rd Reason-Rupe poll, the respected polling firm found an astounding 96% of Americans say it is “important” to reduce the National Debt with an equally astounding 69% saying it is “very important” to reduce the National Debt. Contrary to Washington D.C.’s best efforts to fool us, the American people get it. The Federal government cannot borrow and spend as if there are no limits. The survey also found 74% of respondents support a “spending cap” that would prohibit the Federal government from spending more money than it takes in during a fiscal year.

The American people intuitively understand they can’t consistently spend more money each month than they earn and they expect their government, who is spending the hard earned money of American taxpayers, to stop living beyond its means.

To add emphasis to the level of frustration with the two major parties running Washington, D.C., 58% of survey participants believe they would either see “no difference” or would be “better off” if Congress were in session only every other year.

In what could be considered the coup de grace in the poll, 80% of respondents said they “would consider voting or will vote” for a third party or independent presidential candidate in 2012.

Washington, the American voter gets it!
