Imperfect People vs. The Rule of Law
Former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-California announced recently that he had fathered a child out of wedlock with one of his house servants. Jesse Jackson, Sr. and Jesse Jackson, Jr. have both been involved in extramarital scandals. Newt Gingrich is well known for his womanizing. We remember former President Clinton, who really started all these very public sexual misdeeds with Monica Lewinsky. The Democrats were able to convince many Americans that a president’s private life did not impact his ability to be president. Our private lives are indicators of what our behavior and attitudes will be in public life.
The Constitution Party will never be so presumptuous to believe our candidates are not susceptible to the same frailties as other men. One notable difference may be that our candidates are vetted, in depth, to determine their willingness to submit decisions and votes to the authority of the Constitution, knowing that anything less leads to loss of liberty and prosperity. Like the imperfect Founding Fathers, we understand and acquiesce to Jefferson’s wisdom, when he stated, “In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”
Because a government is composed of fallible human beings, abuse of power is a constant threat. The Rule of Law must be followed and applied equally across the board. The Constitution makes it apparent the Founders intended the government to possess only a bare minimum of power over our lives. An individual’s freedom from abuse of power by government was to be the result.
Abuse of power is rampant in American government today. Below are links to recent examples of the “rule of law” being trampled under the boots of tyranny abusing power. It is frightening to realize these three incidents actually happened in the United States of America.
